Boyd, D.C.?A champion of the chiropractic profession and holder of the first chiropractic license to be granted in the state of Louisiana, Dr. William S. Boyd (1916-1996) was a much beloved member of the Chiropractic Association of Louisiana. A true chiropractic pioneer, he served, in 1953, as Vice-president of CAL (then called the Louisiana Chiropractic Association), and from 1955-1960 he represented the association as president. During those years, and for almost two decades to follow, he worked diligently for licensure of the profession in this state. (Licensure was finally obtained in 1974.) In 1960, Dr. Boyd was elected to the Louisiana House of Representatives, making him the first chiropractor in the state elected to the Louisiana Legislature. Following his term of office in the House, he returned to work within CAL as legislative chairman, a position he held for a number of years. In 1988, he was named Honorary Chairman of the Board of CAL, an honor never before or since granted to a practitioner. After retirement, he remained active within the association, sharing his insight and perspective on key issues until his death in 1996.
